What it was
The file browser is where every Figma session starts: the home for teams, projects and files, and the first thing a new user sees. I led a revamp of the experience in 2025.
What I did
Better banner logic, so announcements and prompts appear when they are useful and stay out of the way otherwise. A simpler UI with less chrome. An improved file create flow with omnicreate; allowing for fast direct file creation. Denser information, so more files and projects fit in view.
What happened
Dramatically reduced overwhelm for new users whilst also speeding up navigation for power users. It was received extremely well internally and with our customers.
